Sunresin Secures Australian Patent for Lithium Adsorbent Innovation
Sunresin Secures Australian Patent for Lithium Adsorbent Innovation
Sunresin New Materials Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that its invention titled "A Lithium Adsorbent and Its Preparation Method" has been officially granted a patent in Australia. This technology has also been granted a corresponding patent in the United States, marking a significant step forward in Sunresin's global intellectual property strategy and innovation leadership in the field of lithium extraction.
Solving Key Challenges in Salt Lake Lithium Extraction
As the global demand for lithium continues to grow—driven by its applications in rechargeable batteries, specialty glass and ceramics, aerospace alloys, lubricants, and pharmaceuticals—efficient and sustainable lithium extraction has become a top priority.
Approximately 70–80% of global lithium reserves are found in salt lake brines. However, many of China's lithium-bearing brines have a high magnesium-to-lithium ratio, making lithium separation particularly challenging due to the interference of divalent magnesium ions.
Traditional adsorbents used for lithium extraction often suffer from issues such as:
- Oversized pore structures, leading to reduced adsorption efficiency;
- Poor mechanical strength and high dissolution rates;
- Incomplete desorption and prolonged tailing effects.
Patent Highlights: Precision Design for Superior Performance
The newly patented lithium adsorbent developed by Sunresin addresses these critical pain points through a highly controlled pore structure with an average pore diameter of 1–10 nm, finely tuned to the approximate 0.3 nm size of lithium ions. This design ensures:
- High adsorption and desorption efficiency at high flow rates;
- Concentrated desorption behavior with minimal tailing;
- Low dissolution loss and long service life, maintaining excellent performance after 1,000 adsorption–desorption cycles.
The pore diameter being just large enough—three times that of lithium ions—enables rapid ion movement while maintaining a high level of material integrity and selectivity.
Advancing Global Reach Through Innovation
The successful patent grants in both Australia and the United States further demonstrate Sunresin’s commitment to global technological leadership in functional polymer materials and adsorption separation technologies. This achievement reflects the company’s strong R&D capabilities and its dedication to solving the world’s most complex extraction challenges in an efficient and sustainable manner.
Sunresin will continue to expand its international IP portfolio, deepen collaboration with global partners, and promote the deployment of advanced separation technologies to support the growth of the clean energy industry.
Patent details can be found via the official databases of IP Australia and the USPTO.
