Pyridine and Pyridine Derivatives Wastewater Treatment
Pyridine and Pyridine Derivatives Wastewater Treatment
Pyridine Wastewater Treatment Process
Pyridine and pyridine derivatives are very important fine chemical raw materials or products, widely used in industrial solvents, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, feed, dyes, and other fields. They are known as the "chips" of heterocyclic pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and veterinary drugs. Pyridine wastewater has a complex water quality, containing a large amount of non-biodegradable heterocyclic substances, and is characterized by high COD concentration, high organic nitrogen content, and high toxicity. Conventional water treatment technologies are difficult to manage, making it a challenging aspect of industrial wastewater treatment.
Common Treatment Methods for Pyridine Wastewater
In recent years, physical methods used industrially to treat pyridine wastewater include adsorption, distillation, and incineration. The advantages and disadvantages of each process are compared as follows:
- Distillation: Distillation is currently a method for recovering pyridine, with the concentration of recovered pyridine solution being about 50%. However, the concentration of residual pyridine in the wastewater after distillation is relatively high, requiring additional treatment equipment. This leads to a more complex sewage treatment setup, higher investment costs, and stringent operational control requirements.
- Incineration: For industrial wastewater with complex components, high treatment difficulty, and high calorific value, incineration can be used. High temperatures degrade pollutants in the wastewater, but the incineration process generates waste gases that must be centrally treated to prevent air pollution due to incomplete combustion.
- Ion Exchange Method: When treating pyridine wastewater using ion exchange resin adsorption, pyridine substances (solutes) in the wastewater are adsorbed onto the resin through intermolecular forces as the wastewater passes through the resin bed. This purifies the pyridine-containing organic wastewater. The adsorbed solutes can be completely desorbed using appropriate methods, and the resin can be reused. Typically, dilute alkali is used as a desorbent for acidic solutes, dilute acid for basic solutes, and organic solvents or steam (selected based on boiling point) for neutral solutes.
Sunresin Pyridine Wastewater Treatment Case Study
In a project for treating 180 tons per day of pyridine-containing wastewater at a chemical company in Shandong, the company used Sunresin's independently developed XDA series resin to treat the pyridine wastewater generated during production. Experiments have shown that the removal rates of 2-methylpyridine and 2-vinylpyridine in the wastewater are over 99%. The treated pyridine content is particularly low, allowing it to be directly fed into a biochemical system for further treatment. The wastewater, after biochemical treatment, can be reused as recycled water, reducing the water consumption in production.
